Home Sick

Eli is not feeling well tonight. He was supposed to spend the night at my  In Laws but my Mother In Law called around 9 pm to tell us he wanted to come home. There is only one thing my baby wants when he is sick and it’s to be with his Mama. He is a Mama’s boy anyways (and proudly admits it) but it gets turned up about a gazillion notches when he is sick. He wants to be snuggled up as close to me as possible and for some reason this makes him feel better. Of course, this melts my heart. I love that my baby wants me to take care of him, even when he thinks he’s a big manly man most of the time.

Why don’t we draw closer to Jesus when we should? Eli knows to come home to Mommy when he’s sick. Why don’t we come home to Jesus when we are sick too?

Jesus wants to take care of us. He wants us to come as close to Him as we can. This means when we are sick. When we are sad. When we feel like there are no other options. He patiently waits for us to bring Him our sorrows and bring Him our troubles. He is who we must draw close to when we feel like there are no other options.

When Eli came home tonight, he climbed into my bed and pulled the covers over  to make himself feel safe and secure. He was asleep in about five minutes, taking comfort in the fact that he was snuggled right up next to me. Jesus wants to make us feel safe and secure too. He wants to cover us with His own love. He will make everything better.

He is our refuge.

We just have to accept that He can do it.

Psalm 91:4  He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
