Balance Scale

If you look at the top of my computer screen on any given day, you will see I have about 20 plus tabs open. It’s a reflection of my life. I’m a little bit ADD and a whole lot of busy. Between serving the Lord, being a wife, mom, student and teacher, I tend to burn the candle at both ends sometimes.   Sometimes I get restless. Sometimes I don’t like to be still.  (Although there are other times when I would rather be at home, in my bed, watching reruns of The Office.)

I wouldn’t say I like to be busy. (My husband would disagree.) I would say I like to have my hands in lots of different pots. Meaning, I want to be a really good Christian. A really good wife. A really good mom. A really good student.  And a really good Reading Specialist.

I was talking about this with a sweet friend of mine the other night. She asked if there was something she could pray about for me and the one word that popped into my head was “balance.”

Thankfully she is far wiser than I am. She pointed out that as long as He is first, then the rest will fall into place.

Have you ever made a homemade balance scale? Take a clothes hanger and tie two cups to either side of it. When you put heavy things on one side, it will lift the other side up. It’s a fairly simple experiment.

Now as I think about how to balance my life, I think about not only putting Him first, but also as the holder of my clothes hanger scale. My scale will only work if He is there helping to balance it. If I’m not holding onto him as my anchor, I’m fairly certain my scale is going to crash to the floor.

He has to be the rock in all areas of my life. Holding me up, making sure I don’t tip one way too far.  When He is at my core, all other things can be made possible.

It’s my job to not let go.

Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
